The difference is technical judgment

Remote Hands and Smart Hands both place someone physically near your infrastructure, but the expected decision-making is different. Remote Hands is appropriate when your team already knows the exact action to perform. Smart Hands is appropriate when the local engineer must diagnose, interpret symptoms, choose a technical step or work through a more complex hardware or network procedure.

Use Remote Hands for deterministic physical tasks

Typical Remote Hands work includes power cycling a device, confirming LED status, photographing a rack, reading a serial number, checking a labeled cable, connecting an approved console cable or replacing a clearly identified hot-swap drive. The work order should identify the device and desired action precisely enough that the technician does not need to redesign the solution on-site.

Use Smart Hands when the cause is not yet known

A server that does not boot, an unexpected RAID state, a networking issue or a new rack deployment often requires more than a physical instruction. Smart Hands can include diagnostics, BIOS or RAID assistance, operating-system installation assistance, network troubleshooting, structured cabling work and complex component replacement. The scope should still define what actions are authorized and what result is expected.

Write a work order that another engineer can execute

Avoid requests such as "check the server" or "fix connectivity" without context. Include facility, rack or cabinet, device model, labels, current symptoms, actions already attempted, acceptable downtime and a clear success condition. If replacement parts are required, state whether they are on-site and how they are identified. Better work orders reduce both time and operational risk.

Keep credentials out of ordinary forms

Neither Remote Hands nor Smart Hands requires passwords, private keys, recovery codes or API secrets to prepare a quote. If a later technical task legitimately requires credential exchange, use a separately agreed secure process. Physical access authorization also matters: the facility and equipment owner must permit the work, and ServerGeorgia can refuse unsafe, unauthorized or materially out-of-scope actions.

Select the service by uncertainty level

If the task is "press this button, check this cable, replace this labeled part," start with Remote Hands. If the task is "determine why this system is failing and help restore it," start with Smart Hands. When the boundary is unclear, describe the outcome and current state in the quote form; the scope can be classified before a technician is scheduled.
